Jennette McCurdy is a former actress, singer-songwriter, podcast presenter, and filmmaker from the United States. McCurdy rose to prominence as Sam Puckett in the Nickelodeon comedy iCarly (2007–2012), a role that earned her four Kids’ Choice Awards, among other honors. She repeated the role in the network’s spin-off series Sam & Cat (2013-2014), following which she left the network. She has also appeared on Malcolm in the Middle (2003-2005), Zoey 101 (2005), Lincoln Heights (2007), True Jackson, VP (2009-2010), and Victorious (2009-2010). (2012).
McCurdy created, developed, and acted in her own online series, What’s Next for Sarah? (2014), and lead the science-fiction series Between (2015-2016) before retiring from acting in 2017 to pursue a writing and directing career. Jennette Michelle Faye McCurdy was born in Los Angeles on June 26, 1992, to Mark and Debbie McCurdy and reared in Garden Grove, California. She is the eldest of four siblings, with three elder brothers. She grew up in a “dysfunctional Mormon family,” as she describes it.
McCurdy’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was three years old and through many surgeries, chemotherapy, and a bone marrow transplant. McCurdy was 21 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in 2010.
McCurdy has confessed that her mother assaulted her emotionally and sexually. “My mom’s emotions were so unstable that it was like straddling a tightrope every day,” she revealed during an interview with People magazine.
